Turing tests
A standard Turing test involves an interrogator posing written questions to a human and computer and, based on their written answers, attempting to identify which is the computer. If the interrogator is no more successful than simple guessing, the computer is deemed intelligent. Many of the limitations of such tests are discussed here.
